In the last fleeting moments of preparation before leaving my house cameraless this past Sunday, I got the word from Miss Solano that there was a photo pass waiting for me at Gramercy Theater that evening. I immediately transitioned the reading of said message into a Tiger Woods style fist pump that nearly dislocated my right shoulder. That’s not true at all, but you might have believed me if I didn’t say otherwise. Point being, I was excited, and for more than one reason. I had never shot in a venue that big, I love working with people who I admire, and I wanted to see all of the perofrming acts control that stage. Jasmine steps from behind the turntables, a surprise to some, and commands the audience’s attention as she aggressively rattles off crafted words. A feature with the hyper antics of Hollywood Holt created and interesting mash-up, as he bounced around the stage like an 8 year old who consumed 16 pixi sticks consecutively. Word Spit was the artist I knew least about entering the night, he is a passionate performer with a live band backing his varying rhyming styles. It was no secret who the crowd was in attendance for that night. Machine Gun Kelly. This kid can rap his ass off. If I were to say he goes in on-stage, I would not be doing his performance any sort of justice. Neither will any youtube videos, but check those out regardless. Best part is that I could tell MGK genuinely enjoyed roaming the stage for the passionate fans and fed off their energy. AND he just acquired the ability to buy beer at your local liquor store.
